Foundation Leadership

The Northampton Medical Services Foundation was established by a group of concerned community leaders to address the issue of the loss of the hospital within our community.  The group intends to support medical providers and facilities to meet the emergency medical needs of the community and to seek the means to provide that care going forward as technological opportunities arise.

Biographical Information

H. Spencer Murray

Mr.  Murray began his career in the financial services industry and held many executive positions and later established his own consulting firm specializing in revitalizing troubled companies and managing large-scale information technology projects for international and Fortune 500 clients.  He is a graduate of The College of William and Mary and served in US Army Intelligence in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star Medal.  Mr. Murray was appointed to the Northampton County School Board where he served on the Finance Committee from 2006-2007 and was elected Northampton County Supervisor for District #4 from 2008 through 2011. He served as Vice Chairman in 2009. During his tenure he served on the boards of the Accomac/Northampton Planning District, the Community Services Board, and continues to serve on the Department of Social Services Board.

H. Furlong Baldwin

Mr. Baldwin served as Chairman and CEO of Mercantile Bankshares Corporation from 1976 to 2011 and has served as Chairman and Director of NASDAQ, Chairman of Johns Hopkins Medicine Board of Trustees, Director of the Wills Group, Conrail, Allegheny Supply Company, and WR Grace.  He serves as a Trustee (emeritus) of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine Board of Trustees.  Mr. Baldwin served as Director of Platinum Underwriters Holdings Ltd., Mercantile Bankshares Corporation, USF&G Corporation, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, GRC International, Constellation Energy Group, and St. Paul Companies.  He is a Governor of the National Securities Dealers and Trustee of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Marine Corps University, and the Virginia Historical Society and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  He has been or is a member of numerous other professional organizations and is a graduate of Princeton University. 

Cela Burge

 Ms. Burge practices law with Turner and Turner in Eastville, Virginia.  She received her law degree from Regent University and is certified as a planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners.  Ms. Burge served as director of economic development and tourism for the West Virginia Parkway Authority, and was town manager of Cape Charles, Virginia.  She has extensive expertise in municipal issues and land use law.  

Dr. Ervin Jones

Dr. Jones, PhD, MD, HCLD, FACOG is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty board certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Jones is former Professor and Director of the Assisted Reproduction & in vitro Fertilization Program at Yale University School of Medicine and former Associate Director of the Yale Fertility Center, New Haven, CT.

Dr. Jones earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, his MD from the University of California at Irvine and his PhD in Reproductive Physiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana.  Dr. Jones served as a professor and director of medical education in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale.  He has received numerous awards, including the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology teaching award, the National Medical Association's Distinguished Physician, Teacher and Scholar award and the Dean's Medical Education Farr prize, Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Jones is a member of numerous medical societies, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the National Medical Association and American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Named as one of "America's Top Docs" by Ladies Home Journal, Dr. Jones was honored as one of America's Leading Physicians by Black Enterprise magazine. He was also featured in Northern Virginia magazine's February 2010 list of "Top-Rated Doctors."

John Coker

Mr. Coker is a retired financial services executive, with over thirty years of experience in Financial Services, Benefits Administration and Operations Management at leading organizations such as Mellon Bank, Fidelity Investments, Prudential Investments and ACS, and is a graduate of Emory University.
